FC San Pedro continue their journey in the CAF Champions League. The Ivorians have secured their place in the second qualifying round following a 2–2 draw in Uyo against Rivers United.

FC San Pedro solid away from home

It all came down to the finer details. In the first leg in Côte d’Ivoire, San Pedro had secured a crucial 1–1 draw. In the return leg on 13 September in Uyo, the score was again 2–2. The aggregate score was 3–3. The away goals rule came into play. Having scored two goals in Uyo compared to Rivers United’s single goal in the first leg, San Pedro progressed and qualified for the next round.

Rivers United exit the competition

The Pride of Rivers are out of the CAF Champions Legaue at the first round. Following a 1–1 draw in the first leg and a 2–2 draw in the return leg, the elimination is a bitter blow. They will need to put this behind them quickly and focus on the league in the hope of returning stronger in Africa.
