Zamalek officially clinched the 2025 /26 Egyptian Premier League title on Wednesday 20 May night successfully navigating a high stakes final matchday to hold off fierce challenges from Pyramids & Al Ahly.

Dabbagh strike sets the tone

The ultimate night of the championship playoff phase kicked off under intense pressure, with the White Knights sitting on 53 point holding a slim advantage over Pyramids (51 point) and Al Ahly (50 point).

Needing just a solitary point to lock up the silverware, Zamalek instantly settled any pre-match nerves by striking early through Palestinian forward Oday Dabbagh.

The clinical opener did more than just break the deadlock, it sent a definitive message to the rival stadiums that the league leaders had no intention of leaving their destiny to mathematical chance.

Controlling the destined path

As updates filtered through that both Al Ahly & Pyramids had also taken early leads in their respective fixtures against Al Masry and Smouha, the tension across Cairo's sports bars was palpable.

However Zamalek maintained complete composure on the pitch. By successfully securing the exact result they needed, the capital giants captured their 15th official league title in club history returning to the summit of Egyptian football for the first time since their back to back triumph in the 2021 /22 campaign.

Immediate redemption after continental agony

This domestic triumph provides a massive sigh of relief and total seasonal redemption for manager Motamed Gamal.

Just days prior, the club and its massive fan base suffered an agonizing penalty shootout heartbreak against Algerian side USM Alger in the Confederation Cup final.

Rather than letting that continental disappointment ruin their entire year, veteran pillars like Abdallah El-Said, Naser Mansi and goalkeeper Mohamed Awad channeled that frustration into a flawless, disciplined final performance to rescue the club's season.

Rivals left empty-handed

In the parallel fixtures, Pyramids & Al Ahly fought valiantly to the bitter end applying maximum pressure in hopes of a historic final day collapse.

Pyramids required a victory coupled with a total Zamalek defeat to claim a maiden championship while Al Ahly needed an even more complex sequence of external results to execute a dramatic title heist.

Ultimately Zamalek refused to hand out any favors slamming the door shut on their chasers and transforming a night of complex calculations into a massive street carnival across Cairo.
