Cristiano Ronaldo's verified Instagram account has sparked controversy by liking a post denouncing supposed FIFA assistance to Argentina.

The 2026 World Cup ended with Argentina's defeat to Spain in the final (0-1, a.e.t.). Despite their impressive run, La Albiceleste faced several accusations of refereeing favoritism throughout the tournament.

Before the final, Spanish journalist Pilar Rodríguez Losantos stated on the show Espejo Público:

"Argentina should have been eliminated at least five matches ago! They are still in the competition thanks to FIFA's help, which is one of the most corrupt institutions on the planet! So, I'm not afraid of Argentina at all, I'm more afraid of Gianni Infantino."

She added:

"I think we're not playing against Argentina, but against all of FIFA, who want to give the World Cup to Lionel Messi!"

Cristiano Ronaldo's verified Instagram account then liked the video featuring these statements. The interaction did not go unnoticed, even though the Portuguese star has not made any public accusations against Argentina or FIFA.
