A century of hoops history
According to Spanish outlet Sport, the department was officially founded on 24 August 1926 following a board meeting at the club's former headquarters near Las Ramblas.
The board approved a proposal by Pere Cusell to establish a dedicated basketball section within the institution.
Exactly a century later, the club will honor this rich history, marked by immense domestic and continental success, as well as challenging periods, with a main centenary event at the Auditori 1899.
Club president Joan Laporta will deliver the opening keynote speech, reflecting on the department's century long legacy and outlining the calendar of commemorative events planned throughout the 2026 /27 season.
A new sporting era under Sekulić
The centenary celebrations perfectly coincide with the dawn of a new sporting project.
Following a period of underwhelming results that fell short of the fans' lofty expectations, Barcelona has enacted sweeping roster changes and appointed Slovenian head coach Aleksander Sekulić to steer the team back to the pinnacle of European basketball.
Pre-Season training commences
On Monday afternoon, the first team will immediately shift its focus from celebrations to preparations, holding its inaugural training session of the season.
However, Sekulić will be working with a noticeably depleted squad due to the ongoing FIBA international break.
