Magesi FC head coach Allan Freese has made an honest admission about his team's defensive frailties, stating it's a worrying factor as they fight against relegation.

The bottom-placed side was thrashed 4-1 by in-form Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday night, falling to goals from Flavio Da Silva, Wandile Duba, Mduduzi Shabalala, and Khanyisa Mayo, while Diteboho Mofokeng netted the consolation.

Magesi are two points behind the 14th spot which guarantees safety, having picked up 17 points in 24 league outings as the season slowly draws to a close.

With nine goals conceded in the last five Betway Premiership outings, Freese says the defensive lapses are a major cause for concern as goal difference could prove vital.

“Yes [I'm concerned], but then we were speaking about it on the bench that it's a worrying factor that's why I'm saying why are we conceding so much now all of a sudden - it becomes a worrying factor now for everybody,” he said.

While the 69-year-old tactician is aware games are fast depleting, he remains optimistic of retaining the team's topflight status despite one win in the last 14 matches.

“Everyday they get fewer and fewer, but there's still other games to play, you can never know what's going to happen. We are going to prepare for that one game on Sunday, that is the one thing we must go and prepare for now,” Freese added.

Magesi welcome top eight aspirants and Nedbank Cup finalists Durban City at Seshego Stadium in their next outing on Sunday.
