Morocco: Nayef Aguerd reacts after withdrawing from the 2026 World Cup
Forced to withdraw from the 2026 World Cup, Nayef Aguerd explained the reasons behind his absence in a message full of responsibility.
Just hours before their World Cup debut, Morocco faces a major blow. Nayef Aguerd will not take part in the tournament, with Marouane Saâdane stepping into the Atlas Lions squad in his place. This is another setback for the Moroccan side, who are already missing Abde Ezzalzouli.

However, the central defender was keen to clarify the reasons for his withdrawal.
"Unfortunately, I will not be participating in this World Cup. This is not a relapse. On the contrary, I feel better and better every day, and my injury is now behind me. But together with the staff, we decided that my current level of performance is not yet sufficient to help the team as I would have liked during the group stage."
Moreover, the Moroccan international emphasized the collective nature of this decision:
"This is a decision made in agreement with the staff, in the best interests of the team and the competition. Of course, it's disappointing, but I accept it with clarity and responsibility. I will now be the team's number one supporter. Make us proud."
A powerful message that nonetheless highlights his commitment to the national jersey.
