Official: José Mourinho will join Real Madrid under one condition

Following Florentino Pérez's announcement this Wednesday, José Mourinho will become the new head coach of Real Madrid if he is re-elected as president next Sunday.

On Thursday, Benfica confirmed the news. In an official statement, the Portuguese club announced they will receive €15 million, which matches the release clause specified in the manager's contract.

"Sport Lisboa e Benfica reports that the candidacy of president Florentino Pérez in the Real Madrid CF elections has expressed a firm intention to appoint coach José Mário dos Santos Mourinho Félix if he wins the club's presidential elections, scheduled for June 7, 2026. In this scenario, the contract will be signed for an amount of €15,000,000, corresponding to the termination clause of the current sporting employment contract," the Portuguese club stated.
