Before reuniting with José Mourinho at Real Madrid, Thibaut Courtois spoke about his special relationship with the Portuguese manager. The Belgian goalkeeper particularly remembers a demanding coach who was always honest and straightforward.

Just weeks before their collaboration at Real Madrid begins, Thibaut Courtois opened up about José Mourinho, a coach he knows extremely well. The two have already worked together at Chelsea, where the Portuguese tactician did not hesitate to push his players to their limits.

The Belgian goalkeeper shared a revealing anecdote about Mourinho’s methods:

“For example, he benched me against Everton because I had cleared the ball twice from the wing in the previous match against Aston Villa. That was his way of challenging me.”

This approach clearly never affected their relationship.

Nevertheless, Courtois has nothing but praise for the Special One.

“Mourinho is a very direct coach. I’m the same way. Our relationship has always been excellent,” he assured.
