On Tuesday night, Vincent Kompany stood up for Vinicius Jr following Bayern Munich's 2-1 victory over Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.

For years, Vinicius Jr has regularly faced criticism for his attitude on the pitch. On Tuesday evening, the Brazilian winger received unexpected backing from the Bavarian coach. Vincent Kompany praised Vini Jr's character.

"Vini has to stay true to himself. He has my full support, whether he’s an opponent or not. Sometimes you need players who stand out from the crowd. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but there are limits that shouldn’t be crossed. I respect Vini, even if I hope he won’t be at his best against us. My respect will always come before the result." said the Bayern coach in his post-match press conference.
