At just 16 years old, the young Nigerian Rio Ngumoha became one of the youngest players ever in the Premier League this Monday. He secured victory for Liverpool in the dying seconds against Newcastle (2-3).

On Monday, Liverpool faced Newcastle on Matchday 2 of the Premier League. Deep into stoppage time, in the tenth added minute, Rio Ngumoha kept his cool against Nick Pope and fired a superb shot into the bottom corner after a brilliantly executed move. It was a sensational feat for the Nigerian wonderkid, who still doesn't have a professional contract as he has yet to turn 17.

Ahead of the clash with Newcastle, his coach was already singing his praises. "Every time he trains with us, you can see his qualities. He can get the better of players in one-on-one situations. He's lightning quick on his feet and changes direction in a flash," said Arne Slot.

Still on a high about his young star, Slot doubled down after the match: "That was a beautiful goal for a 16-year-old. Rio [Ngumoha] has such a finishing ability for his age. I heard someone in the dressing room say afterward that they would have liked to get to the ball first, but he is just so confident. For his age, he's a fantastic finisher. Of course, it's special for him to score a goal at a moment like that."
