Nigeria issued clear warning to their Africa Cup of Nations rivals after completing flawless group-stage campaign with commanding 3-1 victory over Uganda sealing qualification to the round of 16 with maximum points.

The Super Eagles finished top of Group C with nine point from three matches becoming the only team in the tournament so far to win all three group games.

Victories over Tunisia, Tanzania and Uganda underlined Nigeria’s growing momentum as the knockout rounds approach.

Algeria could still match that achievement if they defeat Equatorial Guinea in their final Group D fixture on Wednesday.

Onuachu & Onyeka power Nigeria to comfortable victory

Nigeria laid the foundations for victory in first half when Paul Onuachu opened the scoring in the 28 minute converting Nigeria’s dominance into deserved lead.

The turning point came shortly after the break when Uganda goalkeeper Jamal Salim was sent off in the 56 minute leaving his side reduced to 10 men. Nigeria wasted little time in capitalising on the numerical advantage.

Midfielder Raphael Onyedika struck twice in quick succession scoring in the 62 and 67 minutes to effectively kill the contest and underline Nigeria’s superiority.

Uganda managed consolation goal in the 75 minute through Rogers Mato but the damage had already been done.

Group C Final standings confirm Nigeria’s dominance

With the group phase concluded, Group C finished as follows:

• Nigeria — 9 points
• Tunisia — 4 points
• Tanzania — 2 points
• Uganda — 1 point

The result confirms Uganda’s elimination from the tournament while Nigeria advance confidently into the knockout stage as one of the competition’s most convincing sides.

With three victories, high attacking efficiency and tactical balance,, the Green Eagles sent warning message to the rest of the teams during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
