Brunei national team captain Faiq Bolkiah, widely recognized as the world's wealthiest footballer, has officially entered free agency following the expiration of his contract with Thai League 1 club Ratchaburi FC according to Spanish sports daily Marca.

A nomadic career across Europe & Southeast Asia

Born in Los Angeles on 9 May 1998, Bolkiah holds dual Brunei and American citizenship and spent his formative years pursuing professional football in the United Kingdom.

His youth development included stints in several established English academies, beginning with AFC Newbury before moving through the development systems at Southampton, Chelsea and Leicester City.

Despite his high-profile youth path, Bolkiah sought senior opportunities outside the English top flight.

He launched his professional career in Portugal with Marítimo before moving to Southeast Asia to sign with Thai side Chonburi FC. He subsequently transferred to Ratchaburi FC where he featured until the conclusion of his contract.

At the international level, the winger has earned six senior caps for Brunei, frequently wearing the captain's armband.

Bolkiah’s status as the wealthiest footballer on the planet stems entirely from his lineage as the nephew of the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah.

The 28 year old is the son of Prince Jefri Bolkiah whose personal assets and royal ties anchor an estimated family fortune exceeding €18.698 billion.

His family's lavish lifestyle has long drawn global media interest. His father's documented possessions have included an extensive private collection of more than 2,300 luxury vehicles, featuring bespoke models from Rolls-Royce, Ferrari and Bentley, alongside nine private aircraft including an Airbus and a luxury superyacht fitted with 24 carat gold interior furnishings.

Bolkiah grew up alongside a twin sister, Qiana and at least 15 paternal half-siblings.
