Barcelona have extended Hamza Abdelkarim’s contract until June 2030, with a salary increase and a new €150 million release clause.

FC Barcelona have moved to secure the long-term future of one of their most promising young talents. Egyptian striker Hamza Abdelkarim, 18, has agreed a new contract running until June 2030. His previous deal was due to expire in 2029, while the improved agreement also includes a salary increase.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the most significant change concerns the release clause. It has risen from €15 million to €150 million, a tenfold increase designed to prevent rival clubs from taking advantage of what had become a relatively affordable figure given the youngster’s rapid development.

A rapid rise since arriving in Barcelona

Abdelkarim initially joined from Al Ahly on loan in February 2026 and quickly impressed in Catalonia. He scored six goals in nine league appearances for Barcelona’s U19 side, including a hat-trick in a 9-0 win over Montecarlo. That three-goal display was one of the key moments in his breakthrough at the club.

Barcelona then exercised their option to sign him permanently during the summer before including him in Hansi Flick’s first-team preseason plans. Abdelkarim finished the summer as Barça’s top scorer with four goals, further strengthening his case for a place around the senior squad.

First-team debut and a World Cup at 18

His rise continued on August 31, when he made his official first-team debut against Rayo Vallecano. Just weeks earlier, Abdelkarim had also represented Egypt at the 2026 World Cup, making four appearances according to Barcelona’s official player profile.

The new deal confirms that Abdelkarim is no longer viewed simply as a prospect for the distant future. A €150 million release clause reflects how highly Barcelona now rate the Egyptian forward and how determined the club are to protect one of their fastest-rising young players. The next challenge will be earning more first-team minutes in a highly competitive attacking unit.
