Bayern Munich: Kompany could have joined Schalke

Before joining Bayern Munich, Vincent Kompany was very close to signing with Schalke 04.

Back in 2022, while he was at Anderlecht, the German club held talks with him to make him their new head coach. Rouven Schröder, Schalke's former sporting director, explained that he was truly impressed by the Belgian: a clear vision, meticulous preparation, and immense passion:

It was one of the best conversations you could have with a coach.

But Schalke simply didn’t have the financial means to seal the deal. Now, Kompany is at Bayern... and everyone can see why Schalke wanted him so badly.
