After suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee during training on December 1, 2023, the Senegal international (13 caps) has not played since. It was a turning point in his career; despite fighting for nearly two years to return, he could not make it back.

According to British outlet SportsBoom, the Lyon-born player is considering calling it quits. While not yet official, this decision marks a sad conclusion for a player who was at his peak less than two years ago.

Having played for Metz and Marseille before joining Bayern Munich in Germany, Bouna Sarr won three Bundesliga titles, a German Supercup, and the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup.
