CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations: We now know when the next edition will take place

The 2026 CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations officially concluded on Sunday night with Cameroon crowned champions.

In Rabat, Cameroon clinched their first-ever title by overpowering Malawi (3-0) in the final of the 2026 CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations. With this edition wrapped up, attention quickly shifts to what's next. The day after Cameroon's triumph, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has yet to announce either the dates or the host nation for the upcoming tournament. Uncertainty looms, especially as the African football calendar is set for changes in the coming years.

However, the next edition is expected to take place in 2028, even though CAF has yet to make anything official.

Morocco to host again?

Another big question is the host country. Morocco has just hosted the 2026 CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations for the third consecutive time, following the 2022 and 2024 editions (the latter played in 2025)—a first in the tournament's history. It now seems highly unlikely that Morocco will host the next edition as well.

But with Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Moroccan Football Federation, declaring in June that Morocco will no longer bid to host future African competitions, the race to host is now wide open. South Africa, which offered to step in for Morocco on short notice back in March, is currently considered the frontrunner.
