Absent from Jürgen Klopp’s first squad announcement as Germany coach, Pascal Groß told Sky Sports that he had already decided not to play for the Mannschaft again.

At 35, the Brighton midfielder was not selected by Klopp for the first squad gathering of his tenure. The decision did not surprise him, as he says he had already ended his international career after the 2026 World Cup:

I didn’t announce it officially because I don’t have social media. But I had already finished my career with the national team. For me, it was over after the World Cup.

Groß now wants to make way for the next generation and sends them his best wishes.

19 caps for Germany

The former Borussia Dortmund player made his debut on September 9, 2023, at the age of 32. He then took part in Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup with Germany.

His international career therefore ends with 19 caps and one goal. “There is a generational change taking place in Germany, and that is a good thing. I will support them,” Groß added to Sky Sports. The Brighton midfielder is now focusing on his club career while continuing to follow the Germany team’s performances.
