Manqoba Mngqithi steered Young Africans to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over newly promoted Geita Gold FC in the NBC Tanzania Premier League on Tuesday.

The defending Tanzanian champions suffered a numerical disadvantage in the 19th minute as Aziz Andabwile was given his marching orders after a heavy challenge on an opponent.

Yanga, as a result, had a difficult first-half with 10-man as Geita Gold held firm to ensure the score remains deadlocked at the half-time interval.

However, Mngqithi's men broke the deadlock 10 minutes after the restart, thanks to Oumar Farouk Komara, who joined the club from Betway Premiership side Golden Arrows during the off-season.

TimuYaWananchi remain at the summit of the Tanzanian topflight standings with 18 points accumulated from their first six league outings of the 2026/27 campaign.

Yanga, who have won five league titles in a row, are three points clear of bitter rivals Simba SC, who are set to lock horns with Azam FC in the Mzizima derby on Wednesday.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor has been tasked with retaining the championship, winning domestic cup titles and mounting a strong run in the CAF Champions League.

Notably, Yanga swing back to league action with the highly-anticipated Kariakoo derby against Simba, who are also coached by a South African tactician in Steve Barker.
