Nice: Elye Wahi returns and is welcomed like a star by the fans
Elye Wahi is set to reunite with OGC Nice after a successful first stint on the Côte d’Azur. Nice supporters gave him an exceptionally warm welcome upon his arrival at the airport.
The Ivorian Elye Wahi is back in Nice. OGC Nice and Eintracht Frankfurt have reached an agreement for the return of the 23-year-old striker, in a deal expected to take the form of a loan with a purchase option estimated at 15 million euros.
A highly anticipated return
This comeback follows a particularly impressive six-month spell wearing Nice’s colors. During that period, Wahi netted 9 goals and provided 2 assists in 19 matches, more than enough to leave a lasting impression on Le Gym’s faithful.
Upon landing at Nice-Côte d’Azur airport on Sunday evening, the striker got a true sense of his popularity. A large crowd of supporters awaited him, phones in hand, chanting, hugging, and cheering in jubilation. It was a rockstar reception, one that even seemed to catch the player by surprise.
Wahi favored Nice
Several clubs had shown interest in his situation. Both Lazio and Hull City made their intentions known, but Wahi reportedly chose to return to Nice, a club where he already knows the environment and enjoys a positive history.
For Le Gym, this move means bringing back a striker who already knows the league and quickly found his feet during his previous spell. The purchase option set at around 15 million euros could allow the Riviera club to turn this temporary return into a permanent transfer.
