Niger: Nabil Neghiz takes the helm at Mena

Niger has found its new manager. Nabil Neghiz has been appointed head coach of the Mena National team. The announcement was made on 11 September during a presentation ceremony chaired by the president of the Nigerien Football Federation.

The Algerian coach bounces back quickly

It didn’t take him long to find a new role following the 2026 World Cup, where he served as Vladimir Petkovic’s assistant with Algeria. Nabil Neghiz succeeds Badou Zaki and immediately takes the reins of the Niger national team.

Mission: 2027 Africa Cup of Nations

FENIFOOT has not revealed any further details regarding the terms of the contract. What is clear, however, is the mission. The 58-year-old manager is getting straight down to business by launching the qualifying campaign for the Africa Cup of Nations. The former MC Alger player will already be on the bench for the first two fixtures: on 25 September against Lesotho in Accra and on 29 September against Gabon in Franceville

A friendly clash with Algeria on the horizon

Another fixture has already been confirmed. The MENA are set to face Algeria in a friendly on 6 October 2026 in Tizi Ouzou. It will be a symbolic encounter for Neghiz, who is returning to his home country, where he served for many years as an assistant manager.
