Official: Cape Verde entrusts national team leadership to Humberto Bettencourt
The Cape Verdean Football Federation has officially announced the appointment of Humberto Bettencourt as head of the national team. He succeeds Bobista, who has moved on to manage RS Berkane.
Humberto Bettencourt, 51, has been coaching since 2015. He knows the squad inside out, having served as Bobista's assistant from January 2020 until 2026, and played a key role in the Blue Sharks' historic run during the 2026 World Cup.
Continuity within the technical staff
With this appointment, the federation is betting on someone who knows the inner workings of the team. Humberto Bettencourt has spent several years working alongside Bobista and understands the national team's dynamics. His promotion ensures a smooth and seamless transition.
In his new role, he'll be joined by António Leite "Toca" and Felipe Neto as assistants, as well as Adinelson Fonseca for physical preparation and Bruno Reis for technical analysis.
Focus on 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers
His immediate mission is clear: he must prepare the team for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The campaign kicks off in September, giving the new coach only a short window to begin his journey with Cape Verde.
