João Pedro has been named the Premier League Player of the Month for August after making an immediate impact for Chelsea.

João Pedro could hardly have asked for a better start to the 2026-27 season. The Brazilian forward has been named Premier League Player of the Month for August after quickly establishing himself as a key figure in Chelsea’s attack. Across the league matches played in August, the 24-year-old recorded two goals and two assists.

After three league rounds, João Pedro still has four direct goal contributions and has confirmed his importance at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have opened their campaign with two wins from three matches and have settled into the upper part of the table.

Rayan Cherki among his strongest rivals

The Brazilian beat several in-form players to the award, including Rayan Cherki. The Manchester City playmaker has also made a flying start, registering two goals and two assists in three Premier League appearances. He supplied two assists against Bournemouth before scoring twice against Crystal Palace.

Those numbers made Cherki one of the strongest contenders for the award, but João Pedro ultimately came out on top. It is the Brazilian’s first Premier League monthly individual honour.

A strong response after his 2026 World Cup disappointment

The award comes only a few months after a major setback for João Pedro. Despite finishing the 2025-26 season with 20 goals and nine assists in 49 appearances in all competitions, Carlo Ancelotti left him out of Brazil’s 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup.

João Pedro had just been named Chelsea’s 2025-26 Player of the Season, making his omission particularly surprising. Ancelotti instead selected Neymar, whose season at Santos had been disrupted by recurring fitness problems, among his attacking options.

João Pedro publicly accepted the decision and remained focused on returning to the national team. Three months later, his form with Chelsea has provided a powerful response. His first Premier League Player of the Month award further underlines his status as one of Brazil’s most productive attacking players.
