Real Madrid: appeal for Vinicius Jr rejected!
Real Madrid’s appeal for Vinicius Jr has been rejected, meaning his four-match suspension in La Liga remains in place.
Another blow for Real Madrid. The club’s appeal against the suspension of Vinicius Jr has been rejected. The Brazil international therefore remains suspended for four La Liga matches and will still miss the games against Sevilla FC, FC Barcelona, Racing and Valencia.
The most damaging consequence is obviously his absence from the next Clasico against Barça. However, the Madrid club has not yet exhausted all its avenues of appeal and will now take the case to Spain’s Administrative Court for Sport, the TAD.
Two combined suspensions after Villarreal
The case dates back to Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Villarreal. Brought on in the second half, Vinicius thought he had scored the second Madrid goal before VAR flagged a foul committed during the build-up. The footage showed the Brazilian pulling Nathan Saliba’s hair, resulting in the goal being disallowed and his dismissal.
Very upset by the refereeing decision, Vinicius then strongly protested to referee Isidro Díaz de Mera and had to be held back by several teammates. The disciplinary commission handed him a two-match suspension for the action against his opponent, to which two further matches for his behaviour towards the referee were added.
Real Madrid try one last avenue of appeal
The rejection of the appeal therefore confirms the initial sanction for the time being. Vinicius will be unable to take part in the next four relevant league matches, although the suspension does not apply to European competitions.
Real Madrid will now try its luck before the TAD. Pending a possible further decision, the club must prepare for several important La Liga fixtures, including the Clasico, without one of its main attacking threats.
