Real Madrid: José Mourinho unveiled behind closed doors
Thirteen years after his first stint, José Mourinho was unveiled this Tuesday as the new head coach of Real Madrid. The Special One makes his grand return to the Casa Blanca.
In a move that caught everyone by surprise, Real Madrid orchestrated a shock announcement in recent hours. Abraham Romero, a journalist covering the club for El Mundo, had hinted on his X account that Mourinho could be presented this Tuesday. He was spot on. But there was a catch: no media outlets were informed. Nor was the general public.
While many expected a high-profile media event, Mourinho was indeed introduced as Real Madrid's new coach behind closed doors, with no media presence. "Real Madrid's boardroom hosted the ceremony to unveil José Mourinho as the new head coach. President Florentino Pérez welcomed him, and Mourinho signed a contract tying him to the club for the next three seasons, until June 30, 2029. After the signing, Mourinho received a stadium model, a watch, and a jersey with his name on it. Our honorary president, José Martínez Pirri, was also present at the ceremony," Real Madrid simply announced.
"Mourinho inaugurates behind-closed-doors unveilings at Real Madrid. José Mourinho has been tasked with kicking off this summer's almost clandestine presentations of Real Madrid's new signings. The coach was alone, accompanied only by Florentino Pérez during the event. No family, no media. The only channel to broadcast images of the event was Real Madrid TV, which, however, did not air Mourinho's first appearance live," wrote Mundo Deportivo.
