Transfer window: Four African stars among the marquee signings for newly promoted Ipswich Town
Having secured promotion to the Premier League, Ipswich Town splashed out around 200 million euros to strengthen their squad during this summer transfer window.
The Suffolk-based club has just announced the return of Julio Enciso, the Paraguayan striker from Strasbourg, for a fee of €30 million. And he's just one of many new faces.
Determined to avoid being a yo-yo club and to establish themselves in the Premier League for the long haul, last season's Championship runners-up have signed no fewer than 12 players—including four Africans. Let’s meet them.
Abdul Fatawu (Ghana)
After moving from Sporting CP to Leicester City in 2023, the 22-year-old winger notched up 16 goals and 23 assists in 100 appearances with the Foxes. His performances convinced the Ipswich Town board to shell out €23.5 million to bring him in this summer.
A Ghana international (32 caps, 3 goals), the Tamale-born star was used as a super-sub in all four of the Black Stars’ matches at the 2026 World Cup.

Issa Diop (Morocco)
One of the breakout stars for the Atlas Lions at the 2026 World Cup, Issa Diop (9 caps, 1 goal) left Fulham to sign for Ipswich Town in a €10 million deal.
Issa Diop boasts 173 Premier League appearances (8 goals, 2 assists), making him a valuable asset for his new club in their battle for top-flight survival.

Cédric Kipré (Ivory Coast)
Loaned to Ipswich Town FC last summer, Cédric Kipré was one of the driving forces behind the club’s promotion to the Premier League. His permanent signing by the Tractor Boys was the logical next step in his journey.
A rock at the back, the former Reims defender played 35 matches—starting 32 of them—and scored three goals. The purchase option was automatically triggered upon their promotion to the top flight.

Abdoul Ouattara (Ivory Coast)
The latest arrival, he leaves Strasbourg with an impressive record of 62 matches across all competitions, tallying five goals and two assists.
Ipswich Town paid €20 million to sign the Ivorian, who can play on both flanks of the defense or in midfield.
