Relebohile Mofokeng found the back of the net on his UEFA Europa League debut as Union Saint-Gilloise dispatched Viktoria Plzen 3-0 in the League Phase opener on Thursday.

The former Orlando Pirates attacker opened the scoring with a composed finish in the 18th minute after a darting run in behind the defence of the Czechia outfit.

He has scored three goals in his last three appearances for USG, taking his overall tally to four goals in eight matches across all competitions.

Mofokeng is gradually establishing himself as a crowd favourite as he also converted a nerve-wrecking winner in a penalty shootout victory over heavyweights Club Brugge in the Super Cup in July.

The Bafana international joined the Belgian club from reigning Betway Premiership champions Pirates after taking part in the 2026 FIFA World Cup co-hosted by USA, Mexico, and Canada.

His contract is set to run until June 2030 with a one-year club option, in a deal that saw USG fork out a fee worth in the region of €3.500 000 (R65 million) to the Buccaneers.

USG, meanwhile, are in fifth place in the league phase standings of the UEFA Europa League and return to continental action with a tie against Real Sociedad of Spain on home soil.

Mofokeng and his team will now switch focus to the Belgian Pro League, where they welcome Royal Antwerp on Sunday, as they look to consolidate the top spot.
