The dream of two Kenyan players turns into a nightmare in Indonesia

After several months of hardship in Indonesia, Kenyan footballers Brian Andaje and Sunday Adam Majimbo have finally returned home, thanks to a joint effort by the Indonesian Professional Footballers Association (APPI), the Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA), and the Kenyan Embassy in Jakarta.

The two players arrived in Indonesia in December 2025, lured by promises of signing with professional clubs made by an individual posing as an intermediary. Once there, none of the promised arrangements materialized. No clubs were introduced to them, and contact with the so-called agent gradually vanished.

A precarious situation before union intervention

Without contracts or income, Brian Andaje and Sunday Adam Majimbo found themselves in dire straits, even forced to sleep on the streets. After leaving Bali for Jakarta in search of help, they were eventually supported by player welfare organizations.

KEFWA quickly alerted its Indonesian counterpart, APPI, which provided financial support for their daily needs and temporary accommodation. The Kenyan Embassy then stepped in to facilitate administrative procedures and ensured they had a place to stay during the final weeks before their return.

A warning about fake agents

This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with unverified opportunities abroad. Players’ unions strongly advise footballers to check the credentials of intermediaries, avoid any payments before signing a contract, and seek assistance from their professional associations.

For KEFWA and APPI, this operation highlights the vital importance of solidarity among unions to protect players facing difficult situations far from home.
