Uganda: scare for Richard Basangwa, but NEC FC offers reassurance

Richard Basangwa has finally delivered reassuring news after suffering a throat injury. NEC FC has provided an update on their forward's condition following the incident against Express FC on Tuesday at Nakivubo Stadium.

Everything unfolded in the 90th minute. Following a dangerous tackle by defender Glory Kisule, Richard Basangwa was struck violently in the neck. The forward remained on the ground, showing alarming signs and struggling to breathe and speak. Referee Joshua Duula immediately stopped play and sent off the offending defender.

Reassuring medical tests

Rushed to Case Clinic, the player underwent a scan. According to the club, the results were negative, ruling out any serious internal injury. After being treated with a paracetamol drip, his condition quickly improved. He is now breathing more easily and can speak, although his voice remains weak.

The incident also highlighted logistical shortcomings. With the ambulance at the stadium unusable, Basangwa had to be transported to the hospital in an improvised vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Kept under observation overnight, the player was scheduled to consult an ENT specialist. Barring complications, an early hospital discharge is expected.
