Senegal wonderkid Ibrahim Mbaye etched his name into Africa Cup of Nations history on Sunday after becoming the youngest goalscorer of the 21st century in the tournament.

The 17 year old Paris Saint Germain forward found the net during Senegal’s 3-1 victory over Sudan in the Round of 16 scoring at the age of 17 year and 344 day.

Mbaye makes instant impact off the Bench

Mbaye was not included in the starting lineup for the Teranga Lions but his impact was immediate. Just three minute after coming on as substitute, the teenager calmly finished move created by captain Sadio Mane putting the result beyond doubt late in the match.

The goal underlined Mbaye’s growing reputation as one of Senegal’s most exciting young prospects despite his limited minutes so far in the tournament.

Senegal overcome early shock to reach quarter finals

Senegal were briefly stunned when Aamir Abdallah gave Sudan shock lead in the sixth minute with superb curling effort that beat goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

However the former champions responded strongly. Pape Gueye struck twice before half time to turn the game around before Mbaye sealed qualification with his late goal.

The victory sends Senegal into the AFCON quarter finals where they will face the winner of Tunisia vs Mali.
