CAN 2025: Fouzi Lekjaa accused as Senegalese press goes on the offensive

The Senegalese press has not held back in its criticism of Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and vice-president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The outlet senenews has gone as far as to allege a supposed deal between Morocco and CAF, aiming to pave the way for the host nation to win the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2025) and thus end a drought that has lasted half a century.

The highly influential Fouzi Lekjaa has been accused of a conflict of interest, as he wears multiple hats including president of the FRMF, deputy minister for the budget, vice-president of CAF, and a member of FIFA's executive committee.

According to the same source, he allegedly put enormous pressure on CAF bodies to appoint his chosen referees for Atlas Lions matches during the tournament.

The Senegalese media even went so far as to claim that the Moroccan official has a stranglehold on the Confederation of African Football (CAF), denouncing what it described as preferential treatment for the Moroccan national team during the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2025).
