Egypt wrapped up their AFCON 2025 Group B campaign with disciplined 0-0 draw against Angola in Agadir.

The result was enough to secure first place and reserve their place in knockout rounds.

Already assured of qualification, the Pharaohs approached the contest with composure and control prioritising structure and game management rather than risk.

Angola, by contrast entered the final group match knowing only win would keep their hopes alive and played with visible urgency but ultimately left frustrated.

Angola Push, Egypt Manage

Angola pressed aggressively from the outset committing numbers forward and asking questions of rotated Egyptian side.

The Palancas Negras enjoyed longer spells in possession, created the clearer openings and even appealed for penalty during sustained pressure.

However their lack of cutting edge proved costly. Egypt’s defence remained organised & resilient absorbing pressure and protecting the clean sheet as they calmly saw out the contest.

With one eye already on the Round of 16, Egypt were content to take the point ,, a calculated approach that paid off.

The draw in Agadir took on greater significance due to events unfolding simultaneously in Marrakech where South Africa defeated Zimbabwe 3-2 in dramatic encounter.

That result confirmed the final standings in Group B and officially ended Angola’s hopes of progressing.

Final Group B Standings

  1. Egypt – 7 points
  2. South Africa – 6 points
  3. Angola – 2 points
  4. Zimbabwe – 1 point

What It Means

  • Egypt advance as Group B winners, unbeaten and firmly in control heading into the knockout stage.
  • South Africa claim the second automatic qualification spot after their late win over Zimbabwe.
  • Angola and Zimbabwe are eliminated, with Angola’s two draws proving insufficient once the parallel result went against them.
