Real Madrid: Javier Tebas hits back at the club after resignation demand

After calling for Javier Tebas to resign, Real Madrid received a scathing response from the LaLiga president.

The open war between Real Madrid and Javier Tebas has reached a new level. The Madrid club called for the immediate resignation of the LaLiga president on Friday after comments in which he compared certain methods used by Real Madrid to the propaganda of the Nazi regime.

In its statement, the Spanish capital club described the remarks as “intolerable” and “morally repugnant.” The club also accused Tebas of regularly lacking impartiality and seeking to discredit its positions, particularly regarding the Negreira case and the reform of Spanish refereeing.

Tebas hits back on X

A few hours later, Javier Tebas responded directly to Real Madrid on X. The Spanish official recalled that the club had already called for his resignation numerous times during his 13 years at the helm of LaLiga.

“I have lost count of the number of times that, over 13 years, Real Madrid directors have called for my resignation or tried to have me disqualified,” he wrote, before adding that, in his view, the club confused “neutrality and independence.”

Tebas also rejected Real Madrid’s accusations concerning the Negreira case, stating that LaLiga had acted “from the very first day.” He then accused the Madrid club of attacking the prestige of the Spanish league, even mentioning the Super League to illustrate what he considers to be a pressure strategy.

“All these manoeuvres have a name: intimidation”

The tone then became even more heated. “What they have failed to achieve with the Super League, they are now seeking to accomplish by destroying the national league,” Tebas wrote.

The LaLiga president concluded by directly accusing Real Madrid of intimidation: “All these manoeuvres have a name: intimidation. And wrapping it in an official statement will never turn it into regeneration.”

Amid Real Madrid’s accusations and Tebas’s fierce response, the institutional conflict between the two camps now appears far from easing.
