Real Madrid: Vinicius Jr now in serious danger

Following another disappointing performance in the Madrid derby, the Spanish press reported in recent hours that José Mourinho may have reached the limits of his patience with Vinicius Jr.

The Special One could ultimately rethink his choices in the coming matches involving the Brazilian. Accustomed to occupying an important place in the Madrid starting XI, Vinicius Jr had nevertheless promised that his efficiency would return. “I can’t miss that many chances,” he said after the trip to Elche. But nothing has changed, and the Merengue winger’s goal tally remains stuck at 1 despite having played 652 minutes in all competitions.

This should therefore prompt the Portuguese coach to change his plans in the weeks ahead. Doubting himself and regularly booed by regulars at the Santiago Bernabeu, Vinicius Jr now finds himself with his back to the wall and will have to respond on the pitch in order to convince his coach to continue placing his trust in him.

It remains to be seen whether this threat will materialize in the coming matches, but the message seems clearer than ever. Vinicius’ status no longer automatically guarantees him a starting spot. Called up by Carlo Ancelotti to the Seleção for three friendly matches during the international break—two games against Australia before facing India—the player whose contract with the Merengues runs until June 2032 will certainly be determined, after this break, to revive his momentum and once again demonstrate his importance to Real Madrid.
