Against Norway, Declan Rice was substituted at halftime in the quarterfinals of this 2026 World Cup.

Clearly, Declan Rice was not at 100%. Thomas Tuchel explained that the Arsenal midfielder was hampered by illness and some discomfort in his hamstrings.

"We knew Declan was struggling. He told me he could keep going until the next cooling break, but I thought that if the match went to extra time, we might have problems managing our substitutions. We made a tough call and it paid off," explained the Three Lions manager.

Rice had spent most of the three days prior to the match bedridden with a virus.
