Ghana: Jordan Ayew ruled out against Côte d’Ivoire and Gambia

Ghana will have to cope without captain Jordan Ayew at the start of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers. The forward, who joined the squad on Monday, complained of pain and underwent tests on Tuesday, September 22. According to reports from Ghana, the tests confirmed an injury that is expected to prevent him from taking part in the matches against Côte d’Ivoire and Gambia.

Jordan Ayew is expected to leave the squad to begin his recovery. His absence adds to an already lengthy list of unavailable players for the Black Stars. Ghana will face Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on Thursday, September 24, before hosting Gambia in Accra on September 29 for the second matchday in Group C.

An ever-growing list of absentees

Carlos Queiroz must already do without several players. Mohammed Kudus withdrew in order to continue his recovery, while Antoine Semenyo is also unavailable due to injury. Baba Rahman and Alidu Seidu are also absent.

Viktoria Plzeň forward Prince Kwabena Adu is also ruled out after suffering a head injury with his club.

The Ghana Football Association has therefore made adjustments to the initial 24-player squad called up by Queiroz. Jordan Ayew’s absence primarily deprives the coach of the player he had appointed captain for this campaign.
