Inter Miami: Lionel Messi targeted by legal case in Spain

The Argentine superstar, Lionel Messi, has found himself at the center of an unexpected legal case in Spain in recent hours.

Spanish authorities have launched an investigation into Lionel Messi's luxurious property located in Ibiza, valued at nearly 11 million euros. This residence, nestled in a protected natural area, is reportedly partially built in violation of local urban planning regulations. According to officials, as reported by several media outlets including A Bola, some rooms developed in the basement—specifically a garage and annexes—were not included in the original plans. As a result, the municipality has refused to issue the official certificate of occupancy and has opened proceedings for "serious violations" of the Urban Planning Code.

Lionel Messi may now be forced to demolish the unauthorized parts of the property to regularize his situation. Otherwise, part of the house could face outright demolition by administrative order. However, sources close to the player claim that the illegal construction was carried out by the previous owner, before Messi purchased the property in 2022. Neither the player nor his lawyer were reportedly informed of these irregularities at the time of the real estate transaction.
