Manchester United: Paul Pogba defends Michael Carrick
Paul Pogba has voiced his support for Michael Carrick, whose position has been weakened by Manchester United’s start to the season. With the Red Devils having collected just six points from their opening six Premier League matches, the former midfielder believes it is too early to question the English manager’s work.
Pogba calls for time for Carrick
In an interview with Sky Sports, Paul Pogba recalled that expectations surrounding Carrick had changed considerably within a few months. After impressing when he arrived as interim manager last season, the coach is now being criticised because of his team’s insufficient results:
The season is very long. He showed what he could do last season when he arrived. Everyone was saying that he was the manager who would change everything, then when the results don’t come, they say: “Oh, maybe he’s too young”.
Pogba particularly regrets that some people are now questioning Carrick’s abilities, even though they previously saw him as the man capable of transforming Manchester United.
From one day to the next, things can change a lot. They simply need to give him time and everything will be fine.
Growing pressure at Old Trafford
Manchester United’s start to the season is indeed concerning. With six points from six matches, Manchester United have made their worst start to a league campaign since the 1986-1987 season. The recent 1-1 draw against Tottenham, conceded after Spurs equalised in the final minutes despite playing with ten men, has intensified questions surrounding Carrick.
His name remains linked to speculation about his future, while several managers have been mentioned as possible successors. However, the English coach’s contract runs until the summer of 2028.
