UCL: UEFA entrusts Barcelona-Galatasaray to an Italian referee!
UEFA unveiled on Sunday the officiating team appointed to take charge of the match between FC Barcelona and Galatasaray, scheduled for next Tuesday as part of the second matchday of the league phase of the 2026-2027 Champions League.
Italian referee Marco Guida will officiate, assisted by compatriots Giorgio Peretti and Giuseppe Perrotti. Marco Di Bello has been appointed fourth official.
Video assistant referee (VAR) duties will be handled by Aleandro Di Paolo, assisted by Fabio Maresca.
Who is Marco Guida, the referee for Barcelona-Galatasaray?
Marco Guida (45 years old) has officiated five matches since the start of the season: two in Serie A, one in the Europa League qualifiers, one in the Nations League and one in the Champions League qualifiers.
During these five matches, the Italian referee handed out 20 yellow cards without showing a red card, and awarded one penalty.
Barcelona and Galatasaray are both coming off a win
Barça head into this European fixture after their 3-0 win over Getafe on Saturday in the eighth matchday of La Liga. With 24 points, the Catalans sit top of the table.
Galatasaray, meanwhile, defeated Kasimpasa 3-1 on matchday seven of the Turkish league. This victory moved the Istanbul club clear at the top of the table with 16 points.
