Junior Olaïtan was one of the key architects of Beşiktaş’s 4-1 victory over Olympique de Marseille on Thursday, September 17, in the opening round of the Europa League league phase. The Beninese midfielder provided two assists, including the one for the fourth goal scored by Ernest Poku.

Starting in midfield, Junior Olaïtan played 82 minutes before being replaced by Oh Hyeon-Gyu. The Beninese player quickly made his mark by being directly involved in Beşiktaş’s opener. He set up İlhan Fakılı, who finished the move to put the Istanbul club ahead.

Olaïtan was decisive again late in the game. In the 81st minute, he won the ball in midfield, advanced and sent Ernest Poku through. The Dutch-Ghanaian striker finished with his right foot to make it 4-1.

According to the match statistics, Olaïtan completed 36 of his 44 passes, delivered three key passes and contested 14 duels. He also won three fouls. Sofascore gave him a rating of 8.5/10.

Another strong performance on the European stage

This match did not mark Junior Olaïtan’s European debut with Beşiktaş. The Beninese midfielder had already featured in the Europa League qualifying rounds with the Turkish club. Before this match, UEFA had recorded six appearances and two assists in the competition.

The match against Marseille did, however, represent his first appearance in the league phase of the 2026-2027 edition.

With his two assists, Olaïtan directly contributed to two of Beşiktaş’s four goals in this 4-1 victory over Olympique de Marseille.
