Galatasaray: Concern Grows Over Victor Osimhen Ahead of Sporting Clash
Victor Osimhen was forced to leave the pitch on Friday against Başakşehir, just minutes after finding the back of the net once again. Galatasaray confirmed that the striker has suffered an injury to his right adductor, but no official recovery timeline has been announced so far.
There is genuine concern in Istanbul. As Galatasaray secured a 3-2 victory away at Başakşehir, Osimhen opened the scoring in the 16th minute before being substituted in the 33rd. The Nigerian was quickly attended to by the medical staff, raising doubts over his availability for the upcoming fixtures.
In a medical statement released on Saturday, Galatasaray said Osimhen was suffering from a strain accompanied by pain in the right adductor muscle group. The club added that treatment had already begun and that further examinations, including an MRI scan, would be carried out to establish the exact extent of the injury.
For now, one crucial piece of information is still missing: the length of his absence. Galatasaray has announced neither a confirmed withdrawal nor a specific return date. Therefore, the various estimates circulating in the media cannot be regarded as an official medical assessment.
Sporting already on everyone’s mind
The timing could hardly be more delicate. Galatasaray are due to travel to Lisbon on September 9 to face Sporting CP in their opening Champions League match. Osimhen is included in the club’s squad for the competition, but his involvement in the match will now depend on how his injury develops.
And Galatasaray would have a great deal to lose if he were unavailable. Osimhen has established himself as one of the most important players in the Istanbul side. His finishing, influence in attack and ability to make the difference in major games make him a key weapon in Galatasaray’s European ambitions. UEFA itself has highlighted him as one of the club’s key players ahead of this Champions League campaign.
After an impressive start to the season, a lengthy spell on the sidelines would therefore represent a major setback for the Nigerian striker, who naturally has major individual ambitions this season.
Nigeria will also be monitoring the situation closely as the next international fixtures approach. But before looking further ahead, all eyes are now on the medical examinations and the evolution of his right adductor injury.
At this stage, Osimhen’s absence against Sporting has not been confirmed. The only certainty is that Galatasaray will have to wait before knowing exactly how long their star striker will be sidelined.
