The opening fixture of PSG's season could be heading for an entirely unexpected twist.

According to information from ICI Armorique, confirmed by RMC Sport, the pitch at the Parc des Princes is currently in a particularly worrying state just days before the big event. The intense heat that has struck the capital has severely damaged the surface, and its deterioration might prevent a Ligue 1 match from being played under conditions deemed acceptable.

This is a major headache for PSG, who now have to find a solution with only a few days left before the league resumes. The European champions are unwilling to take any risks with their pitch, while the league authorities must also ensure both teams can play under normal conditions. The venue for the match is now a hot topic, with the tight schedule leaving little room for maneuver.

Several scenarios are currently being considered to allow this marquee clash to go ahead despite the state of the Parisian turf. The first option would be a straightforward postponement of PSG-Rennes to a later date. However, this is a problematic solution given an already packed calendar. A far more dramatic move is also on the table: switching the home and away fixtures.

According to ICI Armorique, talks are underway between both clubs and the authorities to potentially hold the match at Roazhon Park on Sunday evening at 8:45pm. Rennes would then host PSG for what was originally set to be their first away trip of the season, with the return leg to take place at the Parc des Princes at a later date.
