Officially: Barcelona announces a temporary return to Montjuïc!

The question of when Barcelona will temporarily return to Montjuic — and when the revamped Spotify Camp Nou will finally be ready — has now been answered.

During Saturday's General Assembly, club treasurer Ferran Olive was asked about the matter by an attending member, and his response offered the clearest picture yet of how the remaining construction work will unfold.

Barcelona will complete the 2026–2027 season at Camp Nou.

Olive went on to explain that Barcelona will temporarily relocate to the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys between June 2027 and January 2028, a period during which the roof structure will be installed at the Camp Nou.

Once that work is done, the stadium is expected to reach full completion during the 2028/29 season, with a capacity of 105,000 spectators.

This means the Blaugrana are set to play the entirety of the 2026/27 season at the Camp Nou.

Once the current campaign draws to a close, the stadium is expected to offer somewhere in the region of 75,000 seats. After that, the following stage of the redevelopment will leave the team with no choice but to vacate the ground for a temporary period.

Camp Nou will have a capacity of 95,000 spectators

This means Barcelona should find themselves back at the Camp Nou midway through the 2027/28 season. By that point, the ground is expected to hold roughly 95,000 seats, giving the club the green light to return before the final phase of the redevelopment wraps up.

The remaining construction work is pencilled in for completion in the summer of 2028. Once that's done, the stadium will be deemed fully operational for the 2028/29 campaign, with its ultimate capacity of 105,000 spectators in place.

That same season will also see the new Camp Nou stage the Champions League final, having been awarded the showpiece event by UEFA. The match is set to take place on 2 June 2029.
