Rele Mofokeng may decide to move from Belgium soon!

Given his outstanding performance in Belgium since moving from Orlando Pirates at the start of the season—joining other *Bafana Bafana* stars playing in Europe—his continued stay at Union Saint-Gilloise for the upcoming season appears highly uncertain.

Rele Mofokeng will not remain in South Africa for long

His departure came on the heels of Mohau Nkota and Mbekezeli Mbokazi, both of whom also left the club though in a twist, Nkota has since made an ironic return on loan. Over the years, the Pirates academy has produced a string of fine talents, generating substantial fees through their sales.

Last season, Mofokeng found the net 10 times and laid on eight assists across 27 league appearances. Since joining Union SG, he has struck twice in four Jupiter Pro League matches in 2026-27, and in July he converted the decisive penalty in a shootout victory over Club Brugge in the Belgian Super Cup final. Bafana legend Shaun Bartlett, for his part, believes Mofokeng's time in Belgium will be brief.

A new step

Word doing the rounds suggests that Pirates may soon find their determination put to the test over Bafana star Oswin Appollis. A foreign club, whose identity remains undisclosed, is keen to secure the services of the 25-year-old winger — and should the offer prove attractive enough, the board would be left with little choice but to give the move their blessing. The loan arrival of Mohau Nkota may soften the blow somewhat for the supporters, yet the question remains whether the 21-year-old can settle in quickly and deliver the kind of output Appollis has produced. Having joined in July 2025, he has already made himself indispensable, contributing nine goals and six assists in 30 league appearances last season. After all, staying available is among the most precious qualities a player can offer.
